Les Fleurs is a traditional stone cottage (gite) set in the Poutou Charente just half an hours drive from
La Rochelle with it’s magnificent coastline, historical ports and gently sloping beaches suitable for all.
Surfers will love the wild beauty of the Côte Sauvage.
Closely linked to Cognac, the superbly refined and locally-produced spirit, the inhabitants know how to enjoy life and welcome guests. Unsurprisingly the area is well known for its seafood, in particular the world renowned Marennes-Oleron oysters, and the Bouchot Mussels of Anse de l'Aiguillon.
Fought over for many centuries the region has a long architectural & cultural heritage. Nearby Saintes situated on the river Charente with it’s narrow streets and medieval houses was an important economic and cultural hub in Roman times. The vast amphitheatre built for gladiatorial combat and the fabulous Roman church of St-Pierre at Aulnay are certainly worth investigating. The colourful market which sets up twice weekly alongside the cathedral is also a must.
From Talmont sur Gironde one of the most beautiful villages in France with its Troglodyte caves, to the
1950s designed town of Royan the whole coastline
simply offers something different.
